The title originates from a passage by Caryl Churchill, one of the most incisive voices in contemporary drama. Able to combine the poetic dimension with a lucid and uncompromising gaze, she has made theater an instrument of social criticism and political action.

In her version of A Dream Play we read: “What is poetry? It is not real, but perhaps it is more than real. It is dreaming while awake.”

From her we learn a lesson that we feel is urgent: theatre today can open an imaginative space, but it asks us to remain vigilant. It is not an escape from reality, it is a way to look at it more clearly, to highlight its contradictions and possibilities. With Sognare da svegli, we want to not let ourselves be distracted and take responsibility for not closing our eyes, in an exercise of both attention and imagination, to look at the present with rigor and at the same time open ourselves to its transformation.

Every performance of the 2025/26 season moves within this tension: between reality and vision, between testimony and appeal. A path that does not merely document reality, but traverses and reworks it, returning it with new eyes; an invitation to pause within our time, in an attempt to rethink it, as in a conscious dream.
